ÄPRE was formed on June 19, 2013, the company has been doubling annually ever since. The founders are engineers and scientists, deeply experienced in the application, design, manufacture and sales of interferometer products. We have collectively worked at Zygo® (now AMETEK®), 4D Technologies, Wyko/Veeco, Tropel (now Corning®) and ESDI/Mahr® with over 120 years experience leading these organizations as key RD&E innovators to senior manager/leader including sales and marketing. ÄPRE is growing by adding sales and RD&E talent with equally deep roots in the industry to strengthen the company beyond the founders to be able to meet the growing needs of the optics industry.

ÄPRE is focused on the optical manufacturing industry. This includes materials, component manufacture, system alignment and system final test. We chose to not serve the industrial or semiconductor markets as this would compromise our ability to meet our optical industry customer’s need for continuously improving metrology tools.

ÄPRE’s headquarters including Engineering, Manufacturing, and Sales are located in Tucson, AZ. ÄPRE also has a Marketing and Adminstration office in Middletown, CT. This arrangement gives us the ability to closely serve our customers across the USA. We also have representatives in Asia and Europe for local sales, support and service.

When ÄPRE started we wanted a name that was easy to remember and started with an A. After many attempts, it was found that using the founders given-name initials Artur-Piotr-Robert, and adding an E to add a vowel, we had such a name. An internet search indicated there were no problems with the meaning in the languages of our customers. The umlaut? Piotr suggested we add some interest by adding the umlaut. And so it was settled: Äpre Instruments
